In an unreported speech at the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the plenary session of the CPC, President Xi Jinping focused on the need to continue the anti-corruption drive in financial and public security sectors.

Remember the phrase “Mao saved the Country, Deng saved the Economy and Xi saved the Party”. The significance? the Party loses credibility if the fight against corruption slackens. The people loathe corruption – they hate to see party members abusing their position for profit and gain. This is a key policy of Xi Jinping.

The focus of the campaign ” should be on cases where political and financial crimes are interwoven”. Much has been made of the death sentence imposed on the former head of Huarong Securities, Lai Xiaomin. Also receiving attention is video footage of local public officials involved in prostitution in the Shanghai Yangpu public security.

Many commentators miss the significance of the anti-corruption campaign. Its success reinforces the links between Party and People – the essential element of the policy of Prosperity + Stability.
