GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON #212 8 MAY 2021

The WHO has added a China vaccine – Sinopharm – to its list of approved Covid-19 inoculations. Mr A Cravioto is chair of WHO Strategic Advisory Group + said that that the Panel had made “a thorough assessment” of the vaccine + concluded ” it was safe + reduced cases of severe or symptomatic disease by at least 79%”.

Mohga Kamal-Yanni is a health policy expert at the People’s Vaccine Alliance said the approval was “great news for people in developing countries who, for months, have been watching people in rich countries being vaccinated while they have been left at the back of the queue”.

Mariangela Simao is the Assistant Director-General for access to medicines + said that the approval had the potential to “rapidly accelerate” access for countries looking to protect health workers and those most at risk.

The West will label this development as “vaccine diplomacy”. They are wrong. China has controlled the virus by decisive action + can make vaccine available. The US/UK failed to control the virus + cannot make vaccine available. Which system of government worked best?
