I attach a Briefing on the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. I recommend that it is read in order to follow Chinese thinking about their future path.
The following stand out points are made;-
In 2020 China will have completed the building of a moderately prosperous society.
China will have eliminated absolute poverty.
China is now building “q modern socialist country in all aspects”.
China predicts that its per capita income could double by 2035.
“Dual circulation” is the focus of development – domestic and international markets.
China regards itself as being the first country to get Covid under control and the focus back on economic development.
China turns its back on unilateralism, protectionism and hegemony.
China’s middle income group numbers 400m.
China will promote trade and investment liberalization.
China will peak CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
China hopes the UK will provide an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese businesses
