China has protected its population better than other countries have protected their populations from Covid-19 + this enables China to distribute large quantities of vaccination dosage to countries in urgent need.
Honduras chief politician, Carlos Madero states “The Honduran people start to see that China is helping its allies + we start to ask ourselves why ours are not helping us”. Honduras is one of only 15 countries that recognises Taiwan over China. The US is worried that this is about to change. Paraguay is the same.
The US wants to strengthen its anti-China coalition just as one by one the coalition turns to China (and away from Taiwan) for life-saving vaccination doses.
Is this vaccination diplomacy or is it about putting people first? The priority of any government is to safeguard the health + well-being of its people. China’s decisive lockdown in February 2020 has enabled the country to recover quicker than most + offer protection to people of other countries. China has shipped more than one-half of the 144m vaccines delivered to Latin America’s 10 most populous countries. Changes are happening.
