GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON #222 18 MAY 2021
China’s Sinopharm vaccine is the first non-Western vaccine approved for worldwide use by WHO as it becomes clear that Western countries have been very slow to share doses even amongst themselves.
China has agreements with UAE, Malaysia + Indonesia to produce Chinese vaccines. The UK has done well for its own people but no vaccine is going overseas.
China is increasingly viewed as the solution, not the source, of the pandemic. The Win-Win philosophy, that dominates China’s BRI approach to world development, is in evidence in its powerful wide-ranging policy on vaccine distribution. As the West squabbles over exports, IP rights + protection of their own production rights, China provides vaccine for China and for the World.
These are not boasts but a testament to China’s success, first, in keeping deaths low by decisive government action, + second, in producing vaccine to assist the world in accelerating recovery.
Vaccine Internationalism Wins Over Vaccine Nationalism.
