The flow of world comment about China is negative. This column seeks to rectify the imbalance + bring information + comment to the international arena – here and in my website – https://lnkd.in/dnGbXUT.
In many ways China is a success story. People enjoy a life style beyond the wildest dreams of their grandparents + non-Chinese surveys will tell you the people of China are happy, not unhappy.
Does that mean China is free of problems? Most emphatically No. Going forward, a country of 1.4bn has to encounter challenges. How to meet rising expectations? How to ensure that the Party continues to serve + lead? How does China remain authoritarian and democratic. Big questions for sure.
But just two points. First China has suffered approx 10,000 Covid deaths. US 500,000+ and UK 125,000+. Second, China is exporting vaccines ahead of applying it to its own people while the West scrambles to vaccinate its own citizens first.
What do these two facts say about democracy and governance. What is the point of One Man One Vote if you cannot protect your own + your people are dying.
