GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON #167
No apologies for dealing with US/China issues. They are that important.
Shi Yinhong, a respected scholar at Beijing’s Renmin University, said it was largely inevitable that China and the US would fall into the Thucydides trap of confrontation between a rising power and a ruling one. “The only factor uncertain or unknown at the moment is when or what twists and turns it would take for them to get there,”.
The initiative is with the US because it is the US that is challenged by being reduced to #2 economic power. How determined is the US to stay #1. It is an issue of pride, ego and national security. Can the Capitalist US permit a Communist PRC to take the top spot.?
The US military-industrial complex will push for confrontation + prepare for war. Saner US voices will confine their action to building alliances + seek to blunt China’s economic progress. The future depends on which group prevails in the US. China’s reaction? Press on with its plans for the rest of 21st C. as the US tries to wrestle back what it is losing.
