What is the meaning of the term “A Century of Humiliation”? What was the humiliation of the 19th Century that China experienced + how does it impact upon today’s mindset of China’s people + China’s leaders looking forward.
And another term that is linked – What does “National Rejuvenation” mean? What is the “Rejuvenation” + how does it play in the minds of the Chinese looking forward?
The importance of both questions is underlined by the oft quoted comment of former UK Prime Minister Blair “Understand China from China’s Perspective”. Put simply – if you know where China is coming from, you know where China is going to. So the past is very important + not just some passing whim or indulgence.
The West likes to portray China as a modern day USSR – the West summons up all the Cold War antagonisms in an attempt to isolate China and damage its credentials as a model for future development. Get wise – is my advice. History matters – big time.
