GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON
Nikkei reports that “The Group of Seven wealthy democracies agreed on Tuesday to look into capping the price of Russian oil while calling out China on human rights including alleged forced labor in Xinjiang…On China, the G-7 state their “grave concern” over freedoms. In their communique, the leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the U.K., the U.S. and the European Union urged Beijing to “respect universal human rights and fundamental freedoms, including in Tibet and in Xinjiang where forced labor is of major concern to us…We are concerned by the use of all forms of forced labor in global supply chains, including state-sponsored forced labor of vulnerable groups and minorities, including in the agricultural, solar, and garment sectors. These sectors have widely reported allegations of abuses against Xinjiang’s Uyghur ethnic group.”
But what about Genocide? This issue fired up the allegations of outgoing Secretary of State Pompeo + incoming Secretary of State Blinken when the genocide/concentration camp allegations first arose in the run-up to the 2020 Trump/Biden Presidential Election.
But Genocide is Genocide isn’t it?. You don’t raise it + then drop it without apology/explanation – and remember the Uighur population in Xinjiang has increased from 10m to 12m!
The West has had to change its focus. False genocide allegations have been side-lined + forced labour is now the banner headline. In time that allegation will fall away as well. Why? Because Genocide + Forced Labour do not exist. So why make the allegations? Why the relentless negative focus on China?
We are back to the Geo-Political Change now taking place in World Affairs. The G-7 has never encountered anything like China before. China is stable + growing + increasingly the Go-To country for the developing world. The Balance of Power is changing. The US/West is slipping back + China is moving forward – hence the genocide/concentration camps and forced labour headlines.
