GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON #200
Covid is Covid + Democracy is Democracy. There is no link. The First is a Medical Issue + the Second is a Political Issue. Well, No!
The pictures of helplessness + despair in India as hospitals turn away millions of Indian people desperate for medical treatment for Covid-19, makes you realise that the organisation of people’s health + the availability/distribution of oxygen canisters is a question of the administration of government throughout the country. In India today, the Indian government cannot cope. Indian democracy is failing the Indian people.
It poses a key question – is Democracy about ‘one man one vote’, and the rule of Parliament? Or is it about much more – the well-being of the people. Isn’t the first requirement of democracy to provide good government for its people? Why study Rousseau, Thomas Paine, Dicey, + Talcott Parsons to find the best academic definition of democracy when their democratic procedures fail the population throughout the biggest Western democracy in the world – India?
At the end of the day democracy is about governance + freedom,
Are you free if hospitals turn you away?
