SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST “China has told the US to “completely cancel all unilateral tariff measures” if Washington wants trade talks, in some of Beijing’s strongest comments on the deepening trade war between the world’s two economic superpowers.
Beijing also said there were “no economic and trade negotiations between China and the United States”, despite repeated comments from President Donald Trump that the two sides were talking.

Nick Marro, principal economist for Asia at the Economist Intelligence Unit, said “We know that these talks are simply not happening. Until we start to see this change, prospects for a deal are going to remain relatively remote, regardless of what Trump says about finding a very quick solution.”

“Toyota, Nissan and Honda are partnering with Chinese technology companies to design smarter electric vehicles as evolving standards in the market make it difficult for them to compete on their own. Toyota designed its first electric sedan, the bZ7, specifically for the Chinese market, equipping the car with Huawei’s HarmonyOS. Honda, meanwhile, plans to equip vehicles with artificial intelligence from DeepSeek in order to respond to voice commands.” GRAHAM PERRY COMMENTS;-
The media has gone silent on those two terms cited as evidence of the isolation of China in international trade – “de-risking” and “de-coupling”. China has not gone “cap in hand” to Trump begging for the relaxation of the swingeing tariffs. On the contrary it has earned praise for “walking tall”. And the evidence is in the announcement that three top Japanese firms – Toyota, Nissan and Honda “ are partnering with Chinese technology companies to design smarter electric vehicles”. DeepSeek, too, is involved – further evidence of closer China-Japan links that were announced on the recent visit to Tokyo by Wang Li – China’s Foreign Minister. It was his first visit in more than four years. Trump closes one door to China and Japan opens another door.
