One of the best observers of China is Kishore Mahbubani. He is the most perceptive especially when he pinpoints the error of many who see China as a mirror image of the old USSR. Big mistake. The CPC has done a great job of improving the welfare of its people. The USSR didn’t. And the US is also failing – in life expectancy + educational standards + the incomes of the bottom 50% of the US have stagnated for 30 years.
The Biden Administration – goaded by Trump- are afraid to look “soft” on China. So a hard-line ensues with the PRC consulate in Houston remaining closed + Blinken following Pompeo in calling China “genocidal”.
Does Biden have a choice? Yes – declare Trump wrong on China; end the trade war; cease foreign policy confrontation on all fronts. He won’t and the future is very uncertain. War beckons. Brinkmanship prevails.
