President Biden has broken with past Presidents + referred to the mass murder of Armenians a hundred years ago as a Turkish genocide. Turkey responded with a warning that the US President should “look at his own history and present”.
Many historians do consider the killing of 1.5m Christian Armenians in 1915 as a planned Turkish organised mass killing. Turkey disputes this saying that both Muslims + Christians died during the chaos of WW1 + the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
Aside from the events in 1915, this action by the US will have a double focus. It will turn the spotlight back on to the US re the treatment of the Native Indians by early US settlers + governments. It will also increase the tensions between the US and China re alleged genocide of the Uyghurs as the US steps up efforts to build a world alliance against the rising China.
US policy on China is a geopolitical push to prevent China’s progress within the next five years to be the leading economic power in the world. The world should prepare for more confrontation + less collaboration.
