GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON #186 – POST#1
Samsung Electronics + Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co executives, Nikkei Asia reports, have been invited to meet today at the White House with President Biden. The invitees include Intel, Micron + NXP.
The Purpose? The world’s electronic industry is battling unprecedented chip + component shortages which have hit carmakers like General Motors + is now spreading to consumer electronics and computer giants like Apple. It’s a big story + a vital meeting today. The US is worried.
Biden is also expected to push Samsung + other international players to join a tech alliance to counter China, but analysts rightly point out that “it is a hot potato for a company that depends on Chinese sales for its chips, displays and other devices.”
This pinpoints the problems facing the US as it tries to take on China. Put it in perspective + see the bigger picture. China on the rise + the US slipping back. History reminds us there is no example of a declining power being able to re-invent itself. Life moves on. Power moves on.
There is always a choice – co-operation or confrontation. The First Works. The Second Fails.
