Biden is struggling to get a balance in his dealings with China. The core problem is that China has succeeded where all US/UK thinking since 1949 has been that China would fail. This is what confuses the West. It was not meant to be like this. China was meant to implode.

China has delivered prosperity and stability on a scale never imagined by the US think tanks, Brookings Institute, Chatham House, academics and politicians. The US always assumed that China, like the USSR, would collapse under the pressure of delivering “guns + butter”.
China is the enemy. China has to be discredited – hence the genocide allegations. Rape, forced labour, compulsory sterilisation, concentration camps – all are part of the grand plan to convince the world that China is the New Evil. In due course those allegations will run their course – they are not true. And at the same time, China will deliver more prosperity and continuing stability.
No wonder that in Washington, London, Paris and Berlin the strategists spend all day scratching their heads
