Anti-China activists are struggling to organise a boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. 11 of 13 companies that have major sponsorship deals with the IOC refused to answer the UK FT when asked if they were reconsidering their sponsorship programmes – incl Panasonic, Toyota, Samsung, and Alibaba. Allianz, Omega + Mars also stood by their position to sponsor.
The US/UK/Dutch + UK Parliaments have all called the situation in Xinjiang “genocide”. But Washington is frustrated as its 4 Country group appears as a “White Mans Club” + fails to gain any support from any developing countries. Also UK Global Law Firm – DLA Piper – recently removed a post from its public blog raising the possibility that a legal challenge could be brought against the UK Olympic Association for sending athletes to Beijing.
There is a Big Divide between Politicians who Pontificate + Businessman who Act. Also judgments have to be made – Is there Genocide? Is there Forced Sterilisation? Is there Forced Labour? The evidence is not there but the attempted isolation of China continues – and continues to fail.
