In recent days I have commented on the China-EU Investment Treaty and its geo-political significance.
Today I focus on the criticisms of the Treaty by the UK’s leading Cold War Warrior – Edward Lucas.
In todays London Times he complains that “hopes of a global stance against Chinese bullying are dashed…Australia is left marooned… [the West] should diversify key supply chains” and more of the same
Lucas is always negative. He is an echo of Forster Dulles of 1950’s and Reds Under the Beds. There is no balance in his comments. It is a one-way journey. He does not even try to understand China from China’s perspective.
The Treaty has a long way to go and may yet be minimised by the European Parliament on human rights grounds. but the wind is blowing and in the direction of more, and not less, geo-political co-operation. Trump disillusioned the EU and now the EU is fighting back.
